Saturday, July 7th, 2007

pownce_1183848389359.png

Kevin Rose, the founder/CEO of Digg is starting a new trend– Pownce. They are currently in closed-beta, and you will need an invite to get in. Once you’re in, you are limited to 6 invites for friends. Fortunately for me, I got an invite.
Here is what Pownce looks like from the inside:

(Click on the image to see the full screenshot.)

What do I do now?

1. Start by adding or inviting your friends.
2. Download and use the desktop software.
3. Then start sending messages, files, links and events!
4. Don’t forget to customize your profile, change themes, and edit settings!

You can post notes to yourself, send messages to others, schedule events, go Pro for $20 to send files up to 100mb, and No Ads.

John Lampard is the author of the blog Disassociated. The web space started on 1997; the blog itself started on March 2007. The symbol of the heart in quotes {?} and the set of quotes {} are seen around the blog; I like the symbol a lot.
He blogs about anything from movies to photos.

Photos
I took a look at his photo album, and some of the images are gorgeous. Here are my favourite (click to enlarge):

$100 for 100 Words
To promote his blog, John is holding a contest: $100 for 100 Words. You write a post on your blog in 100 words or more, linking to his contest page and his home page. (This post is also an entry) The contest ends at July 31 2007. And it’s free to join!
So go over to John’s blog and drop him a comment, or join his contest!

The News Room Videos- Get Paid.

Monday, June 18th, 2007

The News Room Logo

The News Room is a news video program which lets you embed relevant news videos on your blog while you earn money. You can earn money by simply embedding videos.
How it Works
When you embed a video from The News Room onto your blog, the videos come with advertisements. (embedding videos is called “mashing”) The News Room shares the revenue from the ads with you, and you can earn up to $4 per thousand impressions (CPM).
You can also earn money when someone mashes the video from your blog and the video gets viewed on theirs. The rate is usually $0.15 CPM.

Benefits
You will get to embed fully licensed, up to date news videos for free on your blog/website, while earning money. (A content and money generator? Take a look at the video above.)

Another benefit that The News Room members get is prizes. Prizes can be from a digital camera to a new car.

Conclusion
The News Room is a good program for earning money. If you have a blog with high traffic, The News Room will be generating some revenue in addition to your current revenue resources, but keep in mind that you will need at least 2000 views to make $8. It will be no match for Adsense, but we will see in the future.

A Visual DNA

Read my VisualDNA Get your own VisualDNA™

I want to share a creative website with you. The above is my embedded Visual DNA from Imagini. (Feed readers, if you cannot see it, please visit the post here.) (You will need Macromedia Flash to view it.) Hover over the square images beside the large one and you will see my interests; what I think is exciting, what I like, etc. It leads you through a series of questions which get evaluated. You are also compared to others’ answers, and a profile is generated for you.

Imagini- Screenshot of FaceWall
This is a creative project by Imagini, the company still in beta. There is also a FaceWall where users can upload good images from their collection of themselves, and will appear on the Face Wall on the main page.
As I’ve mentioned before, Imagini is still in beta, and I am looking forward to any future projects released. Get your Visual DNA profile.

Sputtr. Search Engines and Networks in One Place

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

A refreshingly clean way to search the things that matter the most. Now you can save valuable time by having all the right searches on just one page!

It sometimes gets frustrating when you can’t remember the exact URL of a website or when you can’t find something. Sputtr might help. Sputtr currently has a collection of 36 major search engines and networks all in one place. The default is Google Search. Sputtr is also available in four languages. The networks and search engines include Google, Google Video, eBay, Amazon Search, SlashDot, Wikipedia, Deviantart, Dictionary, Reddit, Yahoo, Live, and more. The list goes on and on, and what can be better than having all your networks and search engines in one place? (on your homepage?)

Flickrvision Beta

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

Flickrvision, still in beta, lets you upload images on Flickr, geoencode it, and it will show up on Flickrvision. So every minute, pictures appear when people upload them all over the world. This really puts “It’s a small small world” into perspective. ;)
There is also the 3D version of Flickrvision, which is basically the same thing, but on a 3D globe. Click on the screenshot above to enlarge. (to make it easier for RSS readers)
When there are not new flickr uploads, then it will say so at the top, and show the current image until new flickrs come.

BlogCatalog: The New Fire

Monday, May 14th, 2007

BlogCatalog is where the new fire is right now. It is similar to MyBlogLog, a social networking site. Here are some of the features.

  • The widget. Blogcatalog features a sidebar widget that is just as customizable as MyBlogLog, and you can put them both in your blog without them looking out of place.
  • The design. It currently is a totally different design from MyBlogLog, but I think that will change in time.
  • Navigation. The site is easy to navigate around and is very simple and clear.
  • Get-to-know-your-community. There are Popular Tags, Recently Added, Top Neighborhoods, Recent Discussions that make knowing the BlogCatalog easier.
  • Directory and categories. The directory and categories make browsing websites much more easier for me.

So BlogCatalog is the new hot social networking site, why don’t you join now?

Top Five Blue Websites

Friday, May 11th, 2007

Blue is a popular colour. Here I have found the top 5 blue websites that have good CSS and coding.

Studio MikMik

mikmik.gif
A cute style, with animated header. The square-shaped talk bubbles add a nice touch.

Backbeat Media

paperclip.gif
A very creative header, with no distractions, and is eye-catching.

Saskia

saskia.gif
Is designed for resolutions 1024×768+, the background is a nice touch for their genre of site. The background darkens as you get to the right.

Too-Fresh.net

Screenshot of Too-fresh.net
Has a nice header, blue gradients done nicely.

OM Daily

Again, that is a very eye-catching background, big and bold. For resolutions 1024×768+, the other half of the letter shows. For resolution 1024×768, the letter is cut off but no scrollbar is shown. An interesting background, the source is worth seeing. Learn about sources.
